The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
By Suzanne Collins

The nation of Panem, formed from a post-apocalyptic North America, is a country that consists of a wealthy Capitol region surrounded by 12 poorer districts. Early in its history, a rebellion led by a 13th district against the Capitol resulted in its destruction and the creation of an annual televised event known as the Hunger Games. In punishment, and as a reminder of the power and grace of the Capitol, each district must yield one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 through a lottery system to participate in the games. The 'tributes' are chosen during the annual Reaping and are forced to fight to the death, leaving only one survivor to claim victory.

When 16-year-old Katniss's young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives. , she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

5/5 Stars

Guys!! I know I'm veryyyy late for this, but I just read The Hunger Games... why didn't I read it earlier you ask? I honestly have no idea... I've never watched the movie but since for some reason everyone is extremely obsessed with this book I already knew the basic plot. It would have been so much better if I went into this book having ABSOLUTELY no idea what to expect, but thanks to the general public I knew exactly what was going to happen the entire time. I did like it though! I really like creative books like this.  Sooooo does she like Peeta?? Or........ Okay, since everyone in the world has read this book already, I'm just going to go ahead and include spoilers.. Why did they let both Peeta and Katniss win?????????? why?? Couldn't they have just waited until one of them died first and then taken the other one? Also.. why hasn't a situation like this happened before? And since it was their idea to let them both win, why are they mad at Katniss like it was HER idea????? ( I mean it was, but they don't know that) And if they were trying to make the audience like the competition then why did they make them like Katniss and Peeta and then try to make them kill each other? Also dang, now that they both won they're both going to have to keep up this star crossed lover thing for the rest of their lives. Kinda sucks for Katniss.. Well, there's not much I can say here that hasn't already been said, so I'll keep my review short and sweet. I think my 5 stars says it all!
